Homemade Oreo's/Doozie's

Homemade Oreos/Doozie's

1 Devil's food Cake Mix

2 eggs

3/4 cup shortening

Mix cake mixes, eggs, shortening. Roll in 1-inch balls. Bake at 350 degrees on cookie sheet for 12minutes. Cool cookies. Makes about 2 dozen 'Oreos'.

Butter Cream Frosting:

1/4 cup butter or margarine (softened, but not melted!)
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (I added a little extra)
1/2 pound powdered sugar or 2 cups
2 tablespoons milk

Cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Add vanilla. Slowly pour in powdered sugar, then add milk while mixing. After the cookies and frosting are made, frost the middle and put together.

You can double this recipe to make more cookies, I actually made twice as much frosting and so I halved the recipe so you wouldn't have the extra frosting to tempt you. I found these types of recipes all over the place, buttercream usually doesn't have shortening in it (I'm guessing) but I'm glad I used this recipe because it was a little more stiff, like at "Great American Cookie Co.", and I crave cookies from that place every other day! You could also make a cream cheese frosting, pretty much just substitute softened cream cheese for shortening and maybe leave out the milk and vanilla. You can use any kind of cookie for homemade Doozie's of course! Enjoy!!
