Don't mind the big bump in the picture above... haha, and Raleigh was a pretzel pro!
Raleigh was excited (see picture below... lol!)
A couple of things that I changed, the baking soda water does not have to be boiling and you don't have to waste that much baking soda, you can dip the pretzels one at a time. You want the water at medium high, but not quite simmering. We used a small saucepan of water with 1/4 cup baking soda. Also, you do not need the egg wash step! The baking soda water makes them golden brown (and actually, you might need to put some foil on a rack above the pretzels to prevent browning too much). They cooked in our oven for 10-12 minutes, instead of the recipe's 15-18 minutes.
And last but not least, if you want that store bought pretzel taste you will have to brush on some butter after they bake! I think the egg wash step they include is to make the pretzels shiny, but I prefer butter... go figure! Experiment with your toppings and dippings (the Auntie Anne's website has lots of ideas)! I like cream cheese for dipping the best, yum. Sorry that there are no 'after' pictures of the pretzels... we were pretty busy eating them!
